Nikole Hannah-Jones is an award-winning investigative reporter who covers civil rights and racial injustice for The New York Times Magazine and the Knight Chair in Race and Journalism at Howard University where she is the founding director of the Center for Journalism & Democracy.A journalist for more than two decades, Nikole covers racial injustice for The New York Times Magazine and is the founding Knight Chair in Race and Journalism at Howard University. She founded the Ida B. Wells Society, the 1619 Freedom School, the Center for Journalism & Democracy, Iola’s Lyceum. Her latest venture, The North Star Books + Bar, will open in Brooklyn this fall.

Her landmark work, The 1619 Project, has been targeted by some of the most powerful people in the nation – including being the subject of proposed federal legislation, a presidential commission and state and local bans across the country.
